After inspecting the flood-prone Manyata Tech Park area in Bengaluru, Shivakumar said he had instructed concerned officials to clear all encroachments under the Disaster Management Act to ensure unobstructed rainwater flow. Structures that hinder this flow will be removed.
He assured, “We will compensate building owners if demolition occurs due to technical issues,” adding, “It’s important to find a permanent solution to Bengaluru’s flooding and waterlogging problems.”
“We are not interested in taking away anyone’s property or causing inconvenience. We don’t want to demolish structures arbitrarily, but it’s essential to ensure rainwater flows freely to prevent flooding,” said Shivakumar, emphasizing, “We can’t allow Bengaluru’s reputation to go down the drain.”
Regarding waterlogging at Manyata Tech Park, he said, “This is an important junction, and any issues here affect other parts of the city. Officials have been instructed to prevent further encroachments.”
He also noted that some individuals have obtained court stays in encroachment cases, but officials have been directed to proceed with demolitions of structures blocking water flow under the Disaster Management Act.
