Hyderabad: Hyderabad is bracing up to host `Fish Prasadam’ on June 8.
The centuries-old tradition of distributing the Bathini Goud family’s `Fish Prasadam’—a unique herbal remedy believed to offer relief from asthma and other respiratory ailments—will take place at the Nampally Exhibition Grounds.
Tradition rooted in faith and folk medicine
Held annually on Mrigasira Karthi day, the event draws thousands from across the country. The prasadam is administered round-the-clock for 24 hours, ending at 10 am on June 9.
Passed down for nearly 190 years, the remedy consists of a secret herbal paste placed inside a live murrel fish, which is then swallowed by the patient. According to the Bathini family, this practice was imparted to their ancestors by a Hindu sage and has since been provided free of charge to all.
Government departments join hands for smooth execution
The Bathini family stated that extensive logistical arrangements are being made with the cooperation of several government departments, including the Hyderabad Collector’s Office, GHMC, Police, RTC, Water Works, Electricity Board, and the Fisheries Department, which is supplying the fish.
Community support and medical assistance
The event is being supported by Sharath Pitti, Chairman of the Badrivishal Pannalal Pitti Exhibition Society. Volunteer groups such as the Agarwal Seva Dal will be on site to serve food, tea, coffee, buttermilk, and drinking water to attendees.
To ensure the safety and well-being of those waiting in long queues, emergency medical teams will also be deployed throughout the venue.
Family carries legacy forward
Leading this year’s distribution are family members Amarnath Goud, Sivasankar Goud, Gouri Shankara Goud, Chandrashekar Goud, Santhosh Goud, and Siva Goud, who were also present at the media briefing.
