Rowdy-sheeter From Hyderabad Assaults 2 Guards at Goa Casino, One Of Them Dies

Hyderabad: The Goa police on Thursday nabbed a rowdy-sheeter from Misrigunj near Charminar for killing a security guard at casino carnival at Campal near Panaji the previous night.

Twenty-five-year-old Abdul Altaf, son of Abdul Rauf and a resident of Misrigunj near Charminar, came to Goa yesterday night along with three of his friends. They came to the casino in Panaji and started misbehaving with the staff in a drunken condition.

Though the security guards requested them not to misbehave with the staff, Altaf did not budge and continued to create problems, shouting at them. However, the security guards continued to plead with him, who was a guest at the casino, not to misbehave with the staff.

Enraged over this, Altaf took a wooden rod, which had an iron clamp at its base from the staircase and attacked the two security guards – Dheeru Sharma (33), a native of Satna in Madhya Pradesh Satyam Gaonkar (27), from Shiroda in South Goa resulting in serious injuries.

Sharma succumbed to his injuries while being shifted to the Goa Medical College and Hospital while Gaonkar sustained a head injury. The condition of Gaonkar was stable. A team of forensic experts visited the crime scene, according to police.

The Panaji police station received a distress call at 3.10 am about an assault incident. Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Superintendent of Police (North) Rahul Gupta on Thursday said that Altaf attacked the security guards with an intention to kill them. After the incident, Altaf, tried to flee Goa, but he was apprehended at Dabolim airport in South Goa in the wee hours.

Gupta said it has come to light during background verification that Altaf is a rowdy-sheeter with a criminal record at Mailardevpally police station in Hyderabad. The police officials said efforts were on to collect more details about the visit of Altaf to Goa with Hyderabad police.
