Hyderabad: A three-member team from Chandrayangutta fire station rescued two children – Abdul Rahman (7) and Mohammed Azam (3) – who were accidentally locked in a room at Talakunta in the old city. The parents and neighbors had tried to open the door but couldn’t, and thankfully, the Telangana fire department’s timely intervention saved the children early on Friday.
The team members comprising leading fireman Mohammed Shabbir and two firemen A Narasimha and M Devender Sagar rushed to the spot on receiving a call around 3.30 am. The parent’s were in a panic state when the fire team reached the house.
A few minutes after examining the room, the team using hydraulic tool cutters broke open the lock and rescued the children. As there was no other way to enter the room, which also lacked a window, the team without making much sound opened the lock.
When the team members entered the room, the children, who were asleep, woke up and were shocked to see so many people in the house. “We quickly rushed to the spot which is one km from Chandrayangutta fire station and rescued the children within 15 minutes,” fireman Narasimha told Deccan Chronicle.
The children’s parents tried to break the door using screwdrivers but to no avail. With the help of neighbours, they tried to break the door with a hammer but failed to open it. They then dialed the fire control room seeking help.
“The latest hydraulic tool kits acquired recently came in handy for us in rescuing those locked inside rooms or lifts,” Narasimha said.
Chandrayangutta Station Fire Officer K Bikshapathi said the children accidentally locked the door from inside and went to sleep on Thursday night. When the parents tried to open it they could not do so forcing them to call the control room.
