India’s Favorite SUV Is Coming Back – And It’s Nothing Like Before!

This time, it will be bolder, tech-loaded and packed with multiple powertrain options that will make you look twice. Curious? You must be. Check out what makes this return so exciting and special!

Well, it’s the none other than the Tata Sierra SUV. The near-production ready model was showcased at the 2025 Auto Expo, and the final model is all set to hit the roads in the second half of 2025 (during festive season).

New Tata Sierra Vs Old – Design

The all-new Sierra looks modern with Tata’s new-age design language; however, it carries some original design elements as well, including the squarish wheel arches, the signature curved-over rear side windows and the high-set bonnet.

Compared to the old Sierra, the new one has a sharply designed rake of the roofline and shorter front and rear overhangs. Furthermore, the headlamps are slimmer than the original old units. The old high and thick 215/75 R15 tyres have been replaced with the 19-inch alloy wheels assembled with 195/65 R19 tyres. The new Sierra also misses out the roof rails and black plastic cladding running around the body.

New Tata Sierra Vs Old – Interior

We haven’t had a glimpse of its new interior. However, the new Sierra is expected to come with triple screen setup and lots of advanced features. The SUV is likely to be packed with features such as the dual zone automatic climate control, ventilated and powered front seats with leatherette upholstery, premium sound system, wireless phone charging pad, multiple USB ports, multi-colour ambient lighting, ADAS suite, 7 airbags, ESC, ABS with EBD, front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera and more.

While the old Sierra had a 5-seats configuration with a folding rear bench seat and a large cargo area, the new model will be offered with 4 and 5-seats layouts. The 4-seater version will offer ‘lounge-like’ experience

New Tata Sierra Vs Old – Engines

The new Sierra will be the only vehicle in its segment to come with three powertrain options – petrol, diesel and electric. The electric version is likely to come first, followed by its ICE model. Tata might use the 1.5L direct-injection turbo petrol and 1.5L diesel engines for the Sierra. Specifications of the Sierra EV are yet to be revealed. The SUV’s ICE version could be offered with 4X4 system. It will come with both manual and automatic gearbox options.

The old Sierra was available with a naturally aspirated diesel engine, which was later joined by a 91bhp, 2.0L turbo diesel motor. A 5-speed manual was the only available gearbox. However, it was offered with a 4X4 drivetrain setup.
