Hyderabad: The Banjara Hills police registered a case against a man for allegedly sexually assaulting and extorting money from a woman whom he had befriended on a social media platform.
The man Mahendra Vardhan, a resident of Banjara Hills had three years ago came in contact with the woman on facebook. After chatting for a few weeks, they exchanged phone numbers and were in touch with each other.
“In 2023, the man had invited the woman for lunch at his house and offered a drink laced with sedatives to the woman. After she consumed it, the woman fell unconscious and the man had sexually assaulted the victim,” said the Banjara Hills police.
The man allegedly took pictures of the woman in the compromising position and afterwards started threatening and blackmailing her and extorted Rs. 20 lakh on different instances. The man recently demanded Rs. 1 crore from the woman who then approached the police and made a complaint. The police registered a case and are investigating.
