Nine arrested for land disputes in Adilabad

Hyderabad: Adilabad police on Saturday said they registered 10 cases against alleged squatters who encroached upon govt land or attempted to extort money by creating land disputes. Adilabad superintendent of police Akhil Mahajan said that based on complaints, nine persons were arrested by police. In a case registered by the I Town police, one Mohammed Akram was arrested based on the complaint lodged by local municipal authorities. It was found that Akram attempted to get the 469 square yard land, a govt property, registered on his name. Two persons were booked in this case. In a few other cases, accused filed criminal cases against victims and attempted to extort money. In Indravelli, the accused filed a case against the complainant, accusing the later of constructing a house in an area which was meant for tribal community. Later, the accused started demanding 5 lakh from the victim. Even after paying 3 lakh, the accused continued to blackmail the complainant. Two persons — GB Kumar and M Anand Rao — were arrested.
