Sloth bear falls into agricultural well in Adilabad, rescued

Hyderabad: An adult male sloth bear accidentally fell into an agricultural well on the outskirts of Sakera village under the Echoda division of Adilabad district. Forest officials, in a coordinated team effort, successfully rescued the bear on Saturday morning.The incident came to light around 10.15 am when the Range Officer received information about the bear being trapped in the well. The officer promptly coordinated with the fire department to arrange rescue equipment and with the police for crowd control and safety.The rescue operation began at 10:27 am. Foresters first lowered a rope-tied cot into the well to provide the bear a place to rest. Later, the fire department brought in a ladder, but the fatigued animal was unable to climb out completely. A JCB machine was then deployed to assist in lifting the bear to the surface.According to forest officials, the bear appeared healthy and showed no signs of major injuries. After a brief assessment, it moved back into the nearby forest. Telangana Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) C Suvarna appreciated the swift and coordinated action of the Adilabad forest team, especially the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) and supporting staff, in ensuring a smooth rescue without harm to either the animal or the personnel involved.
