Vikarabad accident | Bus crashes into parked lorry killing four returning from family function, 17 injured

A family function ended in tragedy for four Shabad residents as they were killed in a road accident when the private bus they were traveling in rammed a stationary lorry on Bijapur-Hyderabad National Highway (NH 163) in Vikarabad district in the early hours of Tuesday. Seventeen others sustained injuries in the crash, including one who is in critical condition.

The deceased were identified as 60-year-old Balamma, 30-year-old M. Ashwini, 30-year-old M. Mallesh and 26-year-old M. Sandeep, all relatives returning to their hometown of Shabad after attending a function in Parigi. The injured, including the driver, were rushed to various hospitals in Hyderabad, and are currently undergoing treatment.

According to Parigi Inspector Srinivas Reddy, the incident was reported around 1:40 a.m. when the bus operated by SKH Tours and Travels was en route from Parigi to Manneguda. “About 200 metres past Rangapur Gate, the bus rammed into a cement-loaded lorry — that was illegally parked on the left side of the road. The impact led to the immediate death of four passengers,” the inspector said.

The bodies of the deceased were shifted to the government hospital for postmortem examination. The Parigi police have registered cases against both the lorry and bus drivers on charges of illegal parking and negligent driving. While the bus driver is currently undergoing treatment, efforts are on to trace the lorry driver, who fled the scene. Further investigation is underway.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy expressed grief over the ghastly road accident. Expressing condolences to the bereaved family members, the Chief Minister directed the officials to provide better treatment and immediate relief to those injured in the road mishap.

Health Minister C. Damodar Raja Narsimha enquired with the district Health officials about the health condition of the injured who are being treated in different hospitals. Senior health officials were directed to extend support to the injured.
