Vijayawada: A 26-year-old woman died after accidentally brushing mistaking rat poison for toothpaste and her teeth with it. The incident was reported on May 23 night in Shiv Sanjeevini Colony in Narasaraopet town of Palnadu district. The deceased was identified as Tanneeru Durga, a daily wager from Kurichedu village. She worked in a lime industry.According to her family members, she was suffering from persistent toothaches caused by decaying teeth. A local doctor had prescribed her some medications and a specific medicated toothpaste to alleviate the pain. On Friday night last week, Durga went to brush her teeth when there was a power outage in her house.However, she accidently used a tube of rat poison that was kept near the window, mistaking it as her prescribed toothpaste.Realising the mistake shortly after, Durga was taken to a nearby registered medical practitioner (RMP), who confirmed that the substance was indeed rat poison. He advised the family to rush her to govt hospital. She was initially treated at Narasaraopet govt hospital on May 24 and sent back home with further medication. However, her condition worsened over the next couple of days.On May 26, as her health declined, Durga was admitted again to the NRT govt hospital. Doctors there referred her to the Guntur govt general hospital (GGH) for advanced treatment. Despite receiving medical care, she passed away at 5pm on May 30.Durga is survived by her mason husband Srinu, a son and two daughters.Her body is currently kept in the mortuary at Guntur GGH, and a death intimation has been issued. The local police are expected to take up further inquiry into the accidental poisoning.
