The Boston Red Sox are taking their time in calling up top prospect Roman Anthony from the Minor Leagues. With the offense struggling and the Red Sox falling 4 games under .500, the Red Sox fandom has been calling for Anthony to get called up for some time.
However, the Red Sox are continuing to slow-play it. In a segment on WEEI Afternoons, Red Sox manager Alex Cora provided an update on Anthony’s timeline to make the MLB roster.

“Roman is doing well. He’s getting better.” Cora said. “As of now, this is the roster that we have and we are going to continue to maximize that. We are very proud of the work he’s putting down there. And like I said last week, he’s not knocking at the doors, he’s kicking it. So, we’ll see what happens in the future.”
Cora’s lackluster answer on Anthony, repeating what he said previously, doesn’t instill confidence in Anthony getting the call-up anytime soon. It’s a similar message Cora sent a week ago, and there is no indication things will change in soon.
Anthony is tearing it up at the Triple-A level. He is batting .303 on the year through 195 at-bats. Anthony has 8 home runs, 23 RBI, and an impressive .922 OPS.
The 21-year-old out of Stoneman Douglas in Parkland, Florida, is close to making his MLB debut. However, the Red Sox’s slow-playing his promotion to the big leagues has frustrated Red Sox fans and media members alike.
With speculation that the Red Sox would have to move one of Jarren Duran or Wilyer Abreu to make room for Anthony, the wait might be even longer than anticipated.
As the season is in dangerous territory of slipping away, the Red Sox’s patience in calling up Anthony is frustrating. Cora’s remark, which leaves Anthony’s call-up status in question, is a further frustrating development for the Red Sox.
