Automotive enthusiasts love performance hatchbacks. It’s still a niche segment in India, as most of these are imported as CBUs and are quite expensive. However, this hasn’t stopped some brands from exploring this segment. Recently, Volkswagen launched theGolf GTI. A four-door hatchback with a 261 BHP, 4-cylinder turbo-petrol engine under the bonnet. The price – Rs 53 lakh! Despite the hefty price tag, the first lot of 150 cars has already been sold out. Now, according to a media report, Honda wants to challenge the Golf GTI for hot hatch supremacy in India with the introduction of the Civic Type R. The Civic Type R uses a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that makes 325 BHP @ 6,500 rpm and 420 Nm @ 2,500-4,000 rpm. The engine is paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox. Honda claims the Type R can go from 0-100 km/h in 5.4 seconds and has a top speed of 275 km/h. It also holds the record for the fastest front-wheel-drive production car at the Nurburgring, with a lap time of 7 min 44.881 seconds. Source:AutoX
