Telangana Cabinet Clears Rs 19,579 Crore Hyderabad Metro Phase 2B Project


The Telangana Cabinet has approved the Hyderabad Metro Phase 2B project, to be jointly implemented by the State and Central governments, The Hindu .

The project, estimated to cost Rs 19,579 crore, will span 86.1 km across three key corridors. It aims to improve urban mobility and decongest traffic in Hyderabad.

Corridor-1 will connect Shamshabad Airport to Future City over 39.6 km, while Corridor-2 will run from Jubilee Bus Station to Medchal (24.5 km), and Corridor-3 will link Jubilee Bus Station to Shamirpet (22 km).

Officials confirmed that the project proposals will be submitted to the Centre for approval and joint execution.

Minister Srinivas Reddy urged Union Ministers G Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay Kumar to facilitate swift clearance and central assistance for the project.

Following the cabinet approval, the Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) will be forwarded to the Centre for final clearance. 

This phase complements Phase 2A, which covers five routes with an estimated cost of Rs 24,269 crore and is currently under review by the central government.

Together, Phases 2A and 2B will create an extensive metro network of 162.5 kilometres across eight corridors, with a combined investment of Rs 43,848 crore.

Officials anticipate taht these routes will significantly improve public transport accessibility, particularly benefiting commuters in the northern suburbs and enhancing connectivity to Shamshabad Airport, a key economic hub.
