A man under the influence of alcohol attacked his neighbour with a sharp weapon in Hyderabad, mistaking her for his wife. The victim, who sustained critical injuries, is being treated at a hospital. Police have registered a case and begun investigation.

Hyderabad: An inebriated man mistook a woman who stays in his neighbourhood to be his wife and attacked her with lethal weapons resulting in life threatening injuries to the victim at Mailardevpally.
According to the police, Saleem, a daily wager, stayed along with his wife Noorjahan, in Uddamgadda in Mailardevpally. The couple are natives of Nanded district in Maharashtra. Beside Saleem’s room, a woman named Abida stayed with family.
For some weeks, some issues were going on between Saleem and his wife following which the man was raging in anger.
“On Friday night, Saleem consumed liquor and in an inebriated condition came to the house. Instead of going into his room Saleem went into the neighbour’s room where Abida was asleep. He mistook the woman to be his wife and attacked her with a sharp object,” said Maiardevpally Inspector, P Narendar.
The woman coming under attack shouted for help. The neighbours caught hold of Saleem and thrashed him while Abida was shifted to hospital where she is undergoing treatment. Her condition was stated to be critical. The Mailardevpally police registered a case and are investigating.
