Officers of the Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) conducted surprise raids at the Vijayawada railway station to check smuggling of ganja, drugs and other narcotics.
Following the directions of Superintendent of Railway Police Rahul Dev Singh, the team led by Deputy Superintendent of Railway Police Ratna Raju and Circle Inpsector J.V. Ramana, checked the cloakrooms, parcels, waiting halls and platforms at the railway station.
“Police checked the trains coming from Odisha, with sniffer dogs on Sunday. During the day-long drive, no ganja or drugs were found. We request the passengers to pass information to the Railway Police, if they notice any contraband or narcotics,” Mr. Ramana said.
The GRP and the RPF officers has asked the parcel office and the railway staff to be alert while booking parcels and keep a tab on the movement of smugglers, the CI said.
