Police grills Kakani over alleged involvement in Quartz mining


Nellore: As part of ongoing investigation related to illegal mining and transportation of Quartz and storing explosives, SC, ST atrocity cases, cops headed by Nellore Rural DSP Ghattamaneni Srinivasa Rao have enquired former minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy during the second day of police custody on Saturday.

It is believed that after failure of securing proper answers from the former minister during Friday’s questioning, police again interrogated Kakani by expecting answers from 25 questions of his alleged involvement in Rs 250 crores worth 65,000 tonnes of ‘Quartz Scam’ in Rusthum Mines located to Tathiparty village of Podalakuru mandal.

According to the reports, cops also have questioned the former minister over alleged insolvent of one Niranjan Reddy (a close aide of Govardhan Reddy) over illegal digging and] transportation of Gravel in the district after forgering the signature of Ongole MP Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy recently.

But it is said to have police felt embarrassed following ‘Stoic Silence’ being maintained by the former minister over the issues during the second day of interrogation as well.

“We failed to get proper answers from the former minister during second day of interrogation also as he appeared like ‘ Mute Spectator’ instead advised us to asker his advocates said an officer on the condition of atrocity.

Meanwhile, police has only one day to keep the Kakani in their custody as it will end by Sunday as per the court direction.
