Diesel leak in my Safari: Impressed with Tata ASC for quick repair work

Opened the bonnet and looked underneath – looked like diesel leak to me.

BHPian Rodie09 recently shared this with other enthusiasts:

Guys,

Have run into a significant issue with my Safari XZA+ Adventure today. Need some guidance on what steps to follow for a smooth resolution.

Today while approaching the car in my parking, noticed a lot of oil below the front area and still dripping slowly. There has been no incident with the car at all, was all good when I drove an hour before this for a short run near house.

I was not sure what the fluid is, so checked vehicle health status on iRA app – showed all good. Checked on dashboard without turning on ignition, again nothing there. Opened the bonnet and looked underneath – looked like diesel leak to me, around the fuel filter lines and some spill over the engine cover too. It was trickling down to the sump and from there everywhere around. It almost stopped after the line did not have fuel anymore I guess.

I refrained from starting the car in any case. Took some photographs and videos. Called the TAMO helpline and logged a case. They will pick the car tomorrow to nearest TAMO SC. Car is 19 months old and still under standard warranty, has extended warranty too.

Update:

Mine was a diesel leak as suspected.

While this fuel leak in engine bay has left me a bit disturbed, the overall handling by TAMO and the dealer – Balaji Motors (TASS) in Aundh, Pune has been impressive.

Coming to the problem, it turned out to be a part named “feed pipe” which is a non metal pipe in the fuel system right after the fuel filter. It appeared that the cushion sleeve to absorb vibrations between pipes had slipped and perhaps caused the pipes to fret and eventually cause a pin hole leak which was enough to spray a lot of fuel inside engine bay.

I had called up TAMO helpline yesterday and logged a case. On my request, first a technician arrived to ascertain that car can be moved and loaded onto truck. Once he cleared, a flat bed truck was sent soon after to tow the Safari to nearest ASC – Balaji motors.

Overall pretty smooth and professional operation.

The car was unloaded at Balaji motors and promptly attended by a service advisor. He confirmed the fuel leak location and wrote the job card. I then left for home and was hoping that this does mean a long down time. I was ready for a day or two keeping in mind the general situation on parts availability we keep hearing.

By evening 5 PM I got a call that on my request they sourced the part form a service center at the other end of city and the job is done, I can pick the car at by 530 PM. I was quite happy and promptly went to the workshop and was done with checks and paperwork in 10-15 mins.

Overall work included the feed pipe and labor amounting to INR 1100 approx. but all was covered in warranty including the flat bed towing to workshop.

Tata Motors emergency helpline was very professional and helping. The agents were polite, courteous and willing to help in the best way possible. Full marks here.

Balaji Motors and their service advisor did a great job too. Left a smile on my face.

Very happy to have the car back the same day – was not expecting.

Only concern I am left with is how to be sure that such fuel leak does not happen again. What if I was doing a long drive and the engine was already hot? I had done a Pune-Mumbai-Pune drive 3 days back only.

Other BHPians having Safari may also want to check the condition of these pipes on their vehicle.
