During the mock drill the designated got accustomed with the layout and staff on their floors so they guide the occupants of the building better during emergencies.
A fire mock drill was conducted at the Telangana Integrated Command and Control Centre (TG ICCC) building in Banjara Hills on Monday, aiming to test emergency preparedness and ensure the safety of its nearly 2,000 occupants.
The drill began with the fire alarm, prompting evacuation from the 83.26m high building. The occupants moved towards designated exits, avoiding panic, and practiced essential survival techniques such as staying low to the ground under simulated smoke conditions. Once outside, everyone assembled at a safe zone where a headcount was taken.
The director of TG ICCC V.B. Kamlasan Reddy emphasised the need for regular fire safety awareness, especially in high-rise buildings where upper floors are more vulnerable. He stated that the facility is equipped with all the necessary fire safety infrastructure and also announced the appointment of Fire Marshals for each floor. These marshals will be responsible for familiarising themselves with the layout and staff on their floors, guiding them during emergencies, and alerting rescue teams if anyone goes missing.
He also declared that such mock drills would now be conducted regularly on the first Saturday of every month to ensure sustained readiness.
Hyderabad Police Commissioner C.V. Anand noted the building’s strategic advantages, including its central 7.5 acre location, twin staircases in each tower, and ease of access for emergency vehicles. He cautioned against underestimating the danger of fire hazards and urged occupants to use staircases and not lifts, during emergencies.
The exercise involved coordinated participation from multiple departments, including fire services, police, medical and health, municipal bodies, NDRF, roads and buildings, electricity, water works, and ambulance services.
