Dhanush and Nagarjuna’s much-anticipated film Kuberaa is all set to release on June 20, but it’s runtime has caught fans off guard.
The film was recently cleared by the censor board with a U/A certificate and a surprising runtime of 3 hours, 15 minutes, and 27 seconds — making it one of the longest mainstream South Indian films in recent memory.

This has sparked concerns among fans. Historically, films exceeding the 3-hour mark often face negative feedback like Indian 2 and end up being trimmed post-release.
However, there are notable exceptions. Films like Pushpa 2, Animal, Salaar, and Kalki 2898 AD have performed well despite longer runtimes. That said, it’s generally considered safer if a film’s duration stays within the 150–160-minute range.

To clear the air, producer Suniel Narang has issued a clarification. He confirmed that the final theatrical cut will be approximately 2 hours and 55 minutes (175 minutes).
The longer version was submitted to the censor board early to avoid last-minute delays and ensure a smooth release process.

Despite the runtime concerns, expectations for Kuberaa remain high. Directed by Sekhar Kammula and featuring a stellar cast — Dhanush, Nagarjuna, Rashmika Mandanna, and Jim Sarbh — the film is positioned to appeal to both Tamil and Telugu audiences.
The pre-release business reflects this buzz. The Tamil Nadu theatrical rights were sold for 20 crore, while the Telugu states fetched an even higher 40 crore.
With no major competition following the postponement of Hari Hara Veera Mallu, Kuberaa enjoys a clear solo release window.
Single-screen theaters across regions are also set to reopen on June 20, providing the perfect launch platform.
After a string of disastrous releases like Thug Life and Bhairavam, the industry is counting on Kuberaa to reignite audience interest in theaters.
