Vijayawada: A post-wedding party escalated into a violent street brawl at Christurajapuram in Vijayawada on Sunday evening, causing panic among local residents as young men, allegedly intoxicated, clashed with knives and beer bottles in public view. The incident occurred after the marriage of Dandamudi Sannidhi, a resident of Dornakal Road in the city and an active member of a political party. As part of the post-wedding celebrations, he gave 5,000 to Vallabhadasu Akhil to organise a party for his friends. Akhil reportedly spent 3,000 on liquor and gathered with several others—identified as Valla Prabhu Kumar, Bobby, and Suresh—for drinks at Christurajapuram. When the liquor was about to finish, Prabhu Kumar contacted Sannidhi and demanded additional funds. Sannidhi provided 1,000 more but was later verbally abused by Prabhu Kumar over the phone, leading to a furious reaction.Enraged, Sannidhi arrived at the scene on a scooty armed with two knives. An argument ensued between him and Prabhu Kumar, which quickly escalated into a physical altercation. Sannidhi reportedly thrashed Prabhu Kumar, who retaliated by smashing a beer bottle and issuing threats. During the scuffle, Prabhu Kumar seized one of Sannidhi’s knives and hurled it back at him, narrowly missing.Akhil attempted to intervene but was blamed by both parties for misusing the funds. He was thrown to the ground and beaten by Sannidhi and later by Prabhu Kumar after the latter discovered that Akhil had kept a portion of the money. All persons involved were taken to the police station.
