As the couple approached Polakampadu on a two-wheeler, a man in an inebriated condition rammed into them from behind with his bike. The impact caused both to fall off their vehicle. Anand Kumar managed to get up and immediately tried to help his pregnant wife to her feet.As the accused attempted to flee the scene with his vehicle, locals present at the spot intervened and advised Sunitha to take away the bike key to prevent him from escaping. Enraged by this, the man allegedly picked up stones and began attacking the couple. Despite her condition, Sunitha was pushed to the ground and stoned. Anand Kumar tried to shield her while also trying to regain control of the situation. In self-defence, Sunitha hit the attacker with a slipper. This provoked the accused further, and he reportedly called a few others to the scene. Within minutes, two more individuals arrived on motorcycles and joined in the assault, indiscriminately attacking the couple. Eyewitnesses said that the attackers ignored pleas for mercy and continued their assault, even as Sunitha repeatedly told them she was pregnant.Locals who attempted to stop the violence were also beaten and threatened. The situation escalated until nearby residents informed the police, at which point the attackers fled the spot.Based on a complaint filed by Constable Sunitha, police registered a case against three individuals identified as Itta Koti, Annamayya, and an unidentified woman. Tadepalli Circle Inspector Kalyanaraju confirmed that the complaint was taken seriously and that CCTV footage and videos from the scene will be analysed to identify all involved. The police investigation is ongoing.
