Rain brings relief from summer heat in coastal Andhra Pradesh

Visakhapatnam: After a week of almost no rainfall, parts of north coastal Andhra Pradesh including Vizag city, woke up to a pleasant weather following moderate to heavy downpour in the region on Tuesday. The cool breeze brought the denizens much-needed respite from the hot and humid weather and the downpour cheered up the farmers, who were waiting for good rainfall to sow kharif crops.Parts of south coastal AP and Rayalaseema experienced thunderstorms accompanied with lightning on Tuesday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast that isolated places in north and south coastal AP and Rayalaseema regions are likely to receive heavy rainfall for the next four days.The maximum temperatures had been soaring between 35-38°C in parts of north AP over the past few days, and Tuesday’s rain brought the heat level down.In Vizag city, several low-lying areas were waterlogged due to rainwater overflown on the roads, thus disrupting traffic. Meanwhile, trees uprooted by gusty winds with the speed of 50-60 kmph, fell on the roads in parts of the city. According to reports, heavy rains on Tuesday disrupted normal life in Araku Valley, Paderu, Ananthagiri, Hukumpeta, Chintapalle and few other places in Alluri Sitharama Raju (ASR) district.The IMD said that a trough runs from northwest Uttar Pradesh to west central Bay of Bengal across north Madhya Pradesh, south Chhattisgarh and central Odisha. The upper air cyclonic circulation over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north coastal Odisha and south Gangetic West Bengal now lies over north Odisha and the neighbourhood. The trough from north Tamil Nadu to south Maharashtra coast now runs as a shear zone.The weather systems will help revive the monsoon currents in AP. The weathermen forecast that isolated heavy rainfall is likely over coastal AP and Rayalaseema on June 11 and 12. Thunderstorms accompanied with lightning are likely at isolated places over coastal AP and Rayalaseema during the period. Gusty winds with 50- 60 kmph speed are likely at isolated places over coastal AP and Rayalaseema.
