Hyderabad: Team Shivangi, an all-women commando unit from the Nirmal police, swung into action to clear fallen trees on Tuesday, after heavy rain accompanied by strong winds hit Nirmal town on Monday night, uprooting trees in the process.During the storm, two autos and a car were damaged when a tree fell on them near the tahsildar’s office in Nirmal town. Three passengers, including a woman, travelling in one of the autos were injured. The rain also blocked the approach roads to some colonies, including Brahmapuri.District superintendent of police (SP) Janaki Sharmila dispatched a 12-member Team Shivangi team, along with other policemen, to clear the roads by removing fallen trees. The women commandos used a cutting machine and other tools to chop off branches and remove them from the area.“The women commandos received 45 days of training in various disciplines to prepare them for any situation, and their services have been utilised ever since,” said Nirmal police officer RSI Ravi Kumar.
