Lisbon’s tram network dates back to the early 1900s, with some of the vintage “Remodelado” trams still in operation, preserved to retain their old-world charm while serving daily commuters and tourists alike. Lisbon’s tram system, known locally as “elctrico,” began operating in 1901, replacing horse-drawn carriages. These electric trams were designed to tackle the city’s steep hills and narrow, winding streets. Over time, they became an inseparable part of Lisbon’s identity, especially the classic Remodelado trams, which still operate today.
