Philadelphia Phillies infielder Alec Bohm is primarily a third baseman, but he’s played first in the last five games with star slugger Bryce Harper (wrist) out. The 28-year-old had hits in four of them, including a three-hit, two-RBI performance against the Chicago Cubs during Tuesday’s 8-4 loss.

Bohm slashed just .213/.242/.266 in April but improved to .324/.364/.510 in May and .343/.378/.750 in June. The 6-foot-5-inch, 218-pounder has hit at least .274 in each of the last three seasons and is hitting .280 this year.

Philadelphia will return Bohm to his natural position for Wednesday afternoon’s bout with the Cubs and beyond, via The Athletic’s Matt Gelb.

“The plan is for Otto Kemp to play mostly first base moving forward,” he reported. “Phillies want Alec Bohm back at third base. Kemp went through Bobby Dickerson Camp this week.”

Kemp is a 25-year-old rookie and is 3-for-14 with one run scored across four games this season.

The Phillies are 2-8 in their last 10 games and are five games behind the New York Mets for first place in the NL East. However, they’re still two games ahead of the St. Louis Cardinals for the third and final Wild Card spot.

Wednesday will be the rubber match between Chicago and Philadelphia, as the latter club won Monday’s game 4-3. Southpaw pitcher Jesus Luzardo (5-2, 4.46 ERA) will start for the Phillies, while right-hander Ben Brown (3-4, 5.37 ERA) will go for the Cubs.

Philadelphia will have a day off on Thursday before hosting the Toronto Blue Jays.
