Djordje Petrovic is expected to leave Chelsea with West Ham, Leeds and Bournemouth among the Premier League clubs looking for a new goalkeeper this summer.
Chelsea fly to America on Friday for the Club World Cup and the expectation was Petrovic would be assessed by Enzo Maresca following a successful loan at Strasbourg.
However, it was reported on Tuesday evening Petrovic had been left out of the squad for the competition to the surprise of many.
Leeds, Bournemouth and West Ham possible clubs for Petrovic
Chelsea failed to agree a deal for AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan on Tuesday after refusing to meet AC Milan’s asking price.
The expectation was Petrovic would compete for the number one shirt next season after excelling in Ligue 1, but it now appears the 25-year-old will be sold.
TalkSPORT have reported West Ham, Leeds and Bournemouth are among the Premier League clubs looking for a new keeper, whilst there are also European suitors.
The report states Petrovic will feel he needs to be playing first team football next season, and it now seems that won’t be at Chelsea.
Robert Sanchez, Filip Jorgensen and youngster Mike Penders will now be assessed at the Club World Cup with one of the three likely to be number one next season.
Chelsea fail to sign Mike Maignan
Chelsea failed to sign Maignan ahead of Tuesday’s 7pm deadline for the Club World Cup much to the disappointment of supporters.
The Blues valued the Frenchman at £12.6m but Milan wanted £20m and an agreement was unable to be reached meaning Chelsea missed out on a top class goalkeeper.
Whether that decision will come back to haunt the Blues remains to be seen, but to pass up on an opportunity to upgrade in a key position over a few million pounds seems baffling.
It’s currently unclear if Chelsea will look to sign another keeper and as things stands it seems Sanchez is set to continue as number one.
