A delegation of Backward Class (BC) leaders met Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Mahesh Kumar Goud on Thursday, hailing his efforts to promote social justice and ensure representation of marginalised communities within the party and the government.

Led by BC Welfare Association national president Jajula Srinivas Goud, the delegation felicitated Mr. Goud commending the Congress party for giving due priority to BCs, SCs, STs, and minorities in both appointed and elected posts.

Mr. Srinivas Goud said during the PCC chief’s term, a new era of empowerment has been ushered in for the poor and underprivileged sections in the Congress. He credited Mr. Goud with convincing top party leaders like Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge and Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for the caste survey in Telangana.

“The Cabinet expansion also reflected the same spirit, with ministerial berths allotted to leaders from socially disadvantaged groups,” he said, adding that nearly 70% of appointments to key party positions, including general secretaries, vice presidents, and members of the powerful Political Affairs Committee, were given to leaders from poor backgrounds.

The BC leaders, however, urged more representation in the appointment of Information Commissioners and requested the TPCC chief to take up the issue with the Chief Minister. Additionally, the delegation appealed for priority portfolios to be allocated to BC ministers in the Cabinet.

A delegation of Golla and Kuruma leaders led by Beerla Ilaiah, MLA met Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka and sought better representation for their communities in the party posts and the government. Mr. Ilaiah said that though BCs representation has gone up considerably the Golla Kuruma community has been ignored. Charan Kaushik Yadav, Lokesh Yadav were among these present.
