MG Windsor EV: Range And Other Ownership Bits

I have kept a log of all my charging sessions so far, and consistent range is above 250km. Odo is 7895km now

BHPian Voltzzzzz recently shared this with other enthusiasts:

Range On My Recent Trips

Just today I drove from Mysore to Hassan. Charged to 100% in Mall of Mysore, drove ~ 10-12 within Mysore and reached hassan with 60% charge left. Covered 120km in 40% charge. Initial days of ownership, I was very conscious about the range. But now I am driving it as I would drive my ICE car (to give you an idea, my Ecosport MT diesel returns ~ 19-20kmpl when I drive on highways). Maybe I am inherently a sedate driver. Speeds were between 60-70km on single lane state highway. Not compromising on overtakes. (Attaching the smart drive figures)

MG Windsor EV: Range And Other Ownership Bits

In the previous charge cycle, when I drove completely within Mysore, I got a range of 275 km (208km using 75%).

I don’t fiddle with drive mode and regen. The car is a pocket dynamite in Normal mode. I enjoy the accelerations more than the straight line speeds. The only thing I am conscious about is that I am a bit defensive and quick to loosen my pressure on the peddle and manage to control the car in regen. Brakes are reserved for the last bite or emergency.

When I drive to Bangalore from Mysore, I usually get a range of 260-270km and while coming back ~ 320-330 (may be due to incline/decline). Speeds are kept between 80 to 100kmph. I don’t use cruise control. (Maybe there will be a drastic drop with speeds >100kmph)
Got an average range of 300km on my trip to Goacovering close to 1400km.

So, already knowing what I was getting into, I am more than happy with the range. I have kept a log of all my charging sessions so far, and consistent range is above 250km. Odo is 7895km now.

Other Ownership Observations:

  1. Had to resort to sun films due to the big glass area
  2. Headlights aren’t enough. Has anybody upgraded the lights? Especially the high beam. I don’t find any significant improvement in visibility when switching to high beam on highways.
  3. Suspension could have been tuned better.
  4. CarPlay has been fine. The only issue is when my wife also uses the car. The car sometimes doesn’t start CarPlay, and I have to select my device. This problem doesn’t happen when I pair only my phone with the car and delete my wife’s phone. Once connected, there is no issue later.
  5. I don’t expect ADAS at this price point. But definitely front sensors and rear wiper.
  6. Poor design of the accessory for keeping Stephny. Takes up too much boot space.

Overall, I am totally happy with this car for city and highway use.
