Vijayawada: A total of 9,647 super fine variety rice bags were dispatched to govt schools and welfare hostels in Krishna district to be served to students under the mid-day meal scheme, as the state govt was set to commence the use of fine variety rice in schools from Thursday. In this regard, the govt distributed the fine variety rice bags of 25 kg to the schools.As the new 2025-26 academic year started and schools reopened on Thursday, the students across the govt schools were served mid-day meals prepared from the fine variety rice distributed by the govt.According to the sources, the district administration finished the distribution of 6,855 super fine quality rice bags to the govt and the remaining 2,792 bags to welfare hostels across the district.Krishna district joint collector Geetanjali Sharma said the govt decided to provide fine variety rice bags to all schools starting June across the state. Geetanjali said that the authorities took measures to ensure that rice bag distribution takes place in a transparent manner and no irregularities occur during their distribution. “Each rice bag will consist of a unique QR code containing details such as the name of the farmer, paddy procurement centre (PPC), rice variety, storage centre, rice mill, packing agency, and technician who certified the rice variety,” the joint collector said.
