The Telangana Medical Council (TGMC) conducted surprise inspections on multiple unauthorised clinics in Devarakonda town of Nalgonda district on Thursday, June 12 exposing rampant allopathic treatment being practiced under the guise of first-aid and primary care centres.
The inspections, held in coordination with district health authorities, revealed a shocking number of individuals without valid medical qualifications operating clinics and prescribing potent medications, including antibiotics and steroids, without medical justification.
Six establishments masquerading as ‘first-aid’ or ‘primary care’ centres were raided during the operation. What the team discovered was individuals lacking the requisite medical qualifications were found administering potent medications, including antibiotics and steroids, without any medical oversight or justification.
In one case, a person holding a Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) degree was found treating patients with allopathic methods far beyond their scope of training. Another individual was discovered impersonating a qualified MBBS doctor to run a full-fledged clinic. Yet another, with a qualification in optometry, was shockingly found performing eye surgeries, said a release.
“These individuals are not just unqualified, but are actively endangering lives by prescribing and administering powerful medications without any medical oversight. There is no legal provision under Indian law that allows setting up of allopathic clinics disguised as ‘first-aid’ or ‘primary treatment’ centres without necessary qualifications or licenses. The concept of ‘first-aid scoped allopathic treatment’ is entirely fictitious and misleading,” said Dr. G. Srinivas, Vice-Chairman of the Telangana Medical Council.
