As the 2025 Major League Baseball season nears its halfway point, the Chicago Cubs have quietly positioned themselves atop the National League Central with a 41-27 record, outpacing second-place St. Louis by five games.

Powered by a plus-103 run differential, with 376 runs scored against 273 allowed, the Cubs have combined potent offense with a steady pitching staff to record one of their best starts since 2016.

Yet even as Chicago has ridden contributions from its veteran core of Dansby Swanson, Kyle Tucker and Seiya Suzuki, it’s the club’s emerging youth who are propelling this squad to new heights.

On Thursday, the Cubs announced their May Player of the Month: 23-year-old outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong.

In 108 at-bats over 115 plate appearances in May, Crow-Armstrong slashed .269/.296/.593, clubbing 9 home runs, driving in 29 RBIs, and totaling 15 extra-base hits en route to a .889 OPS.

He currently leads the Cubs with 17 home runs, 55 RBIs, 72 hits, 50 runs and 21 stolen bases through the first 68 games.

Crow-Armstrong was selected 19th overall by the New York Mets in the 2020 MLB Draft. He also logged extensive experience in USA Baseball’s youth programs, earning a spot on the U-18 All-World Team after a .364 average at the 2019 U-18 Baseball World Cup.

On July 30, 2021, Chicago acquired “PCA” from New York in exchange for Javier Báez and Trevor Williams. He then climbed through the minors rapidly, earning the MiLB Gold Glove in 2022 before debuting at Wrigley Field on September 11, 2023.
