A New York-based startup known as The Browser Company, which previously introduced the Arc browser, has now created a new AI-driven web browser called Dia. Designed with a minimalist and user-friendly interface, Dia integrates artificial intelligence directly into the browsing experience. This allows users to access AI tools seamlessly—eliminating the need to visit external platforms like ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Claude. Built on Google’s open-source Chromium framework, Dia combines speed and simplicity with advanced AI functionality.

Dia: What is it?
The standout feature of Dia is its integrated AI assistant, accessible directly from the address bar. This smart assistant can carry out online searches, generate summaries of uploaded documents, and intelligently toggle between search and chat functionalities. It’s also capable of responding to queries related to currently open tabs and can create written content using the information from those tabs.
As per a report by TechCrunch, Dia can intelligently alternate between chat and search functionalities on its own. The browser appears to possess screen context awareness, enabling users to inquire about the content of their active tabs. Additionally, it can generate documents by pulling relevant information from those open tabs, crafting text that aligns with the on-screen context.
Dia is now available in beta exclusively for Arc users on Mac. While it currently lacks some of Arc’s signature features—such as side-tab layouts and workspace support—these may be introduced in future updates. For now, Dia aims to reimagine the browsing experience, positioning itself more as a collaborative assistant than just another piece of software. The Browser Company has confirmed that all existing Arc users will receive instant access to Dia, and current Dia users can also extend invitations to others to explore the new browser.
Here’s the big idea behind @diabrowser:
You know how TikTok gets better with every swipe? Dia gets more personalized with every tab you open.
This is 100x more context than ChatGPT, automatically. And we believe it changes what’s possible with AI.

While both Arc and Dia originate from The Browser Company, they serve different purposes and reflect distinct design philosophies. Arc reimagines the traditional browser with a unique layout that includes vertical tabs, organized sidebars, and a powerful command bar, aiming to reinvent how users interact with the web.
On the other hand, Dia introduces a more conventional horizontal tab layout, allowing for easier navigation and enabling users to reference open tab content directly within the chat interface. Designed for those who value smooth transitions and visually appealing interfaces, Dia offers a more intuitive and aesthetically refined browsing experience.
