Bavuma Reveals How The Aussies Sledged SA In WTC Final

After a long wait of 27 years, South Africa won an ICC trophy the other day. Temba Bavuma-led Proteas won the World Test Championship finals against Australia and emerged as the new Test champions. After winning the game, Bavuma revealed the pressure they had while the Aussies were sledging them on the field by calling them chokers. Vice-captain and Man of the Match in the WTC final, Aiden Markram, also spoke about the same and asserted that it is great not to have to hear that word again.

He said that while his team was batting, batters could hear the words like “chokers” from the Aussies. “While we were batting, we could hear the Aussies using that dreaded word, choke,” said Bavuma. He went on to add, “We came in with a lot of belief and a lot of doubters. We got ourselves into the final, and there were doubters as to the route we took. This win squashes that. Here’s an opportunity for us as a nation, divided as we are, to unite.”

The Aussies were known for their sledging, and we have seen this over the years against many teams. Overcoming such a champion team and their pressurising sledges was a humongous achievement for the Proteas, and they truly deserve the win.

Meanwhile, the player of the match, Aiden Markram, also spoke about the ‘Chokers’ tag. He said that it will be great not to have to hear that again. To have got the job done and to get rid of that is quite a big thing for this team. All the questions that have been asked in the past have now been answered,” said Markram.
