Restoring my grandfather’s 53 year old Hero cycle: How to go about it?

I have decided to restore this rusted relic to carry on dada’s legacy.

BHPian Dieselhead03 recently shared this with other enthusiasts:

Dada (my grandfather) passed away two years ago, his 24 inch hero bicycle from 1972 (53 year old) was rusting in the backyard its not just a piece of metal for me this bicycle carries my countless childhood memories from fairs, Sunday haircuts to farms with Dada. I have decided to restore this rusted relic to carry on dada’s legacy.

Dissembled every part for Sanding after that i would go for a primer coat then base coat and some clear coat for gloss.

One of the issues I am facing is where I can find original decals I also have a second option which is custom decals (getting printed ) but again I am not able to find any images of decals on the internet, if any one of you has any idea where i can find decals or high quality images so i can get them printed. Please help

Any other suggestions are welcomed and appreciated.

Here’s what BHPian amol4184 had to say on the matter:

If you go to local cyclewaala (not the fancy ones) they might have sticker set for it. A lot of those shops acted as all-in-one units. They not only repaired, they also cosmetically refurbished cycles including paint and sticker job. Back then people would run these things down till they fell apart and then put back together again for another decade of hard riding. Simple times!

Once you find the stickers, definitely put them under the clear coat. Also, replace all the bearings and consumables in case you plan to ride it. How good are the wheels? The wheels are often the most rusted parts on bikes this old. So rusted in fact that they develop holes. If that’s the case you will need to find a set of wheels.

If everything fails, people who do decals/number plates will be able to print these for you:
