The Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) on Monday, June 16 launched a special drive targeting veterinary clinics with attached medical shops in and around the Greater Hyderabad region, uncovering a host of regulatory violations concerning the sale and storage of veterinary medicines.
The inspections were conducted across Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Medchal-Malkajgiri, and Sangareddy districts. According to officials, the focus of the drive was to identify and curb irregularities in the stocking and sale of veterinary drugs, particularly in clinics and pharmacies operating within the GHMC limits.
As many as 42 medical shops were found to be in violation of drug control norms. The infractions included the sale of veterinary medicines without a valid prescription from a licensed veterinarian, lack of proper maintenance, and production of sales records, failure to maintain mandatory drug registers, stocking expired veterinary drugs alongside saleable ones, and improper storage practices where veterinary and human-use drugs were not kept separately.
The DCA in a release stressed that all medical shops handling veterinary drugs are legally required to adhere to regulatory protocols to ensure the quality, safety, and efficacy of medicines intended for animals.
