Vijayawada: A case of alleged domestic violence has come to light in Krishna district, where a mentally unwell man succumbed to injuries inflicted by his wife. The deceased, Bolem Srinivasa Rao (45), was a native of Devarakota village in Ghantasala mandal. He had been suffering from mental illness for several years.According to the Challapalli police, Srinivasa Rao was married to Mangamma about 20 years ago, but their relationship reportedly turned violent after a few years. Mangamma allegedly had a serious altercation with her husband when she was pregnant, and later left for her native village. Since then, Srinivasa Rao lived alone and unwell in Devarakota. The couple has a son named Karthik. Mangamma currently resides with her son in Narayana Rao Nagar of Challapalli and works at a shrimp company near Pamarru. As per the investigation, Mangamma recently brought her differently-abled husband to live with her, reportedly to obtain a pension in his name. Police said that Mangamma frequently subjected her husband to physical abuse.On Saturday, she allegedly beat Srinivasa Rao with a stick and inflicted injuries on his genitals. He was taken to a hospital for treatment and later brought back home, but he died that evening due to the injuries.
