Micah Parsons Gets Backing of NFL Star in Contract Dispute With Cowboys originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Micah Parsons is getting some big support in his ongoing contract situation with the Dallas Cowboys.
The team has not made much progress with its star pass rusher in his bid for a contract extension, though there is still hope that the two sides can find an agreeable number before the start of the season.
In the meantime, Parsons has warned that his price could be going up due to some big contracts around the league, including a $40 million per year deal for Cleveland Browns star Myles Garrett.
Garrett, the former AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year, said this week that he’s in Parsons’ corner. Appearing at a Texas Rangers game to throw out the first pitch, Garrett said he believes Parsons has earned his payday from the Cowboys.
"I think he deserves whatever he’s earned," Garrett told Abby Jones of DLLS Sports. "I mean, the guy is special. Once I got the chance to train with him, I’ve seen his work ethic, I’ve seen how he attacks the weights, running. He’s 100% committed to his craft and getting better every day, and [he's] someone who produces on the field and has that dedication to the game. He should get every penny he’s owed."
Parsons has racked up 52.5 sacks through his four NFL seasons, earning four trips to the Pro Bowl and two All-Pro nods. The defensive end is set to earn $24 million in the coming season after the Cowboys picked up his fifth-year option.
