Mumbai man booked for rape and cheating after promising marriage to Hyderabad woman-Telangana Today


A Hyderabad woman accused a Mumbai-based man of rape and cheating after he promised to marry her. The suspect allegedly sexually assaulted her, took Rs 25 lakh from her family under false pretenses, and later threatened to leak private content.

Hyderabad: A woman approached the Begumpet police alleging she was cheated and raped by a Mumbai-based man who had promised to marry her.

According to the police, the 47-year-old woman from the city who met the suspect Shashikanth Kakkad (42) on a matrimonial site and subsequently became friends on Facebook.


In January 2023, the suspect first came to Hyderabad and stayed in a star hotel. There, he called the victim multiple times to discuss their wedding plans and future. He claimed that he was from an affluent family and promised to marry the woman. It was then, that he raped her multiple times.

Further, using the bank account of the victim’s sister, the suspect invested about Rs 25 lakh collected from the victim and her family members in the stock market. He further fled to Mumbai and started avoiding the victim.

Recently when she asked him to marry her, he started avoiding and refused to marry her. When pressurised, he allegedly threatened to publicise their private photos and videos.

Based on the woman’s complaint, a case of rape and cheating was booked and efforts are on to nab the suspect.
