A man’s plan for a special trip to Hawaii with his daughter was botched by US based United Airlines. In a fit of anger he shared his frustrating experience with United Airlines in a detailed Reddit post which is now gaining traction.
The man had booked a multi-leg journey, but late at night, just before his trip, he was informed that the first flight was delayed. This delay left him with very little layover time and required a terminal change, adding stress to his travel.

Looking for a solution, he saw an option on United’s website to “drop the first leg” of the trip. Since he lived closer to the second airport, it seemed like a good fix.
But after clicking the option, he discovered that the airline had cancelled the entire outbound trip instead.

He immediately called United Airlines customer support and was kept on hold for nearly 30 minutes. While waiting, the flight he needed became fully booked.
The customer service agent told him that only a supervisor could help, but no real action was taken. He said no alternative flights were offered either.

The man claimed to have spent thousands on the trip and said the airline’s website was misleading. He felt the customer service was slow and unhelpful. In his Reddit post, he mentioned that he plans to file a complaint with aviation authorities.
Some Reddit users, especially frequent travelers, replied that United’s system was working as designed and that removing one leg of a journey usually cancels the entire booking. But the traveler said the airline should have been clearer and more supportive.
In the end, he felt abandoned by the system and believes United Airlines failed to help him when he needed it most, this tells a lot about civil aviation in USA, where the poor services are causing constant panick among its customers.
