Two months after launching the updated Grand Vitara petrol and hybrid in India, Maruti Suzuki has now rolled out the same update to the Grand Vitara CNG. With prices ranging from Rs 13.48 lakh up to Rs 15.62 lakh (ex-showroom), the Grand Vitara CNG is offered in two variants – Delta and Zeta, and now comes some additional features including six airbags.

The biggest update to the CNG models is the move to six airbags as standard. Other new standard features to the CNG SUV include tyre pressure monitoring and a PM 2.5 filter (the Zeta gets a PM 2.5 display as well). The Zeta variant, meanwhile, offers additional new kit such as ventilated front seats, rear door sunshades, a wireless phone charging dock, 17-inch alloy wheels and an audio system from Clarion.

Moving to the powertrain, little has changed under the hood. The Grand Vitara CNG continues to be offered with the familiar 1.5-litre four-cylinder bi-fuel engine capable of running on petrol and CNG. The unit develops a peak output of 87 bhp and 121.5 Nm in CNG mode and is paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard. Maruti claims a mileage of 26.6 km per kg for the SUV.

In terms of the competition, the Grand Vitara is the sole SUV in the compact SUV space to offer a factory-fitted CNG kit. Honda also offers a CNG option for the Elevate in India, though it is a dealer-level fitment.
