Vijayawada: Armed reserve constable N Madan Reddy, who worked as a gunman for former minister Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy, moved the high court on Tuesday seeking directions to allow his advocate during questioning by the special investigation team (SIT) probing the alleged liquor scam. Madan Reddy alleged that he was coerced by the SIT officials to give a confession against a political personality in the alleged scam. The counsel who argued for Madan Reddy told the high court that a notice was issued to the petitioner to appear before the SIT as a witness. Accordingly, he attended the questioning on June 10 as a witness, during which SIT officials exerted physical pressure on him to depose against a political person and tried to extract a confession from him, the counsel told the court, while adding that Madan Reddy was admitted to a hospital due to mental trauma. He is now receiving treatment, and doctors have advised him to take a rest of 15 days, the counsel said, and sought directions for the SIT to allow his advocate during questioning and record his statement. As the public prosecutor was not available on Tuesday, the high court posted the matter for further hearing to Wednesday.
