A Hyderabad-bound Lufthansa flight made an abrupt U-turn on Sunday and returned to Frankfurt after receiving a bomb threat mid-flight. The flight returned roughly two hours after take-off. It was outside Indian airspace when it made a U-turn.
The threat was reportedly received via email at around 6:01 PM on Saturday. “A bomb threat assessment committee was formed, and all procedures were followed as per SOP,” said an official source, reported ANI.
Flight LH 752, operated by a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, had departed Frankfurt around 6 PM (local time) and was cruising over Bulgarian airspace when the threat was reported. The aircraft turned back and landed safely in Frankfurt roughly two hours after takeoff.
The flight was originally scheduled to land at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) around 1:30 AM on Monday.
Confirming the incident, a Hyderabad airport official, as per ANI, said, “The flight returned to its origin (Germany) because of a bomb threat, which was received while the aircraft was still outside Indian airspace.”
However, the airline said something which contrasted with the Hyderabad official’s statement. “We did not receive a permit to land in Hyderabad, and that’s why the aircraft took a u-turn and returned,” ANI quoted a Lufthansa Airlines spokesperson as saying.

“We just landed back in Frankfurt around 15 minutes ago, and all we were told is that Hyderabad hasn’t given permission to land there,” news agency PTI quoted a passenger as saying.
The passenger added, “It was a smooth journey and after about two hours in the air, we were told that we would be returning to Frankfurt.”
This comes days after a Delhi-bound Air India flight made an emergency landing in Thailand after a bomb scare. All 156 passengers on flight AI 379 had been escorted from the plane, in line with emergency plans, an Airports of Thailand official said. The aircraft took off from Phuket airport bound for the Indian capital at 9.30 a.m. (0230 GMT) on Friday, but made a wide loop around the Andaman Sea and landed back on the southern Thai island, according to flight tracker Flightradar24.
