Hyderabad police bust Odisha gang, recover 77 stolen phones in Bowenpally

Hyderabad: The Bowenpally police on Tuesday arrested a three-member gang of property offenders and recovered 77 mobile phones, apart from a two-wheeler from them.

The arrested are Ganta Chinna (40), Pradhan Srikanth (22) and Avula Gopal Rao (20), all residents of Odisha.

According to the police, the gang had mastered the art of diverting the attention of the people on the roads and stealing their mobile phones and other valuables.

“One of the gang members would lie down on a secluded road pretending to be injured in a road accident. When a road user comes to help him, another gang member would seek his help on some pretext and by diverting his attention, steals the mobile phone or other valuables and escapes,” said ACP Bowenpally, P Gopala Krishana Murthy.

On a complaint from a victim who was conned by the gang, the police registered a case and, after identifying the suspects, arrested them.
