
Suriya’s Retro, directed by Karthik Subbaraj, which was released in theatres on May 1st, has received mixed responses from audiences and ended its theatrical run as a below-average performer in terms of box office collections.
Following the underwhelming theatrical release, Retro began streaming on the Netflix OTT platform on May 31st in five languages. On OTT too, Retro has received mixed responses, and some scenes from the movie became meme templates and troll material for netizens.

In this scenario, Karthik Subbaraj recently participated in an interview in which he stated that he was in talks with OTT people to release Retro’s extended version as a web series after 3-4 months, with deeper emotional and fight sequences.
He also mentioned that his planned Retro extended version web series would have a 30-40 minute duration per episode with around 5-6 episodes. Therefore, it would offer more details on the spiritual, cult, and comedic angles in the movie.

He added that the OTT platform is not willing to do it, but he is trying harder from his side to release Retro as a web series. This has now gone viral.
Following this, some people on social media are commenting that, even though Retro is different from other commercial movies, it has many screenplay issues. So, Karthik Subbaraj should better leave Retro as it is and concentrate on his next projects.

However, it seems like Karthik Subbaraj is trying his best to release Retro as a web series. It remains to be seen whether Retro’s extended version will be released soon or if Karthik Subbaraj will leave Retro as it is and concentrate on his upcoming projects.
