New Maruti 5-Seater SUV Launching Soon

Maruti Suzuki is all set to launch a new 5-seater SUV during this year’s Diwali season. The carmaker remains tight-lipped about the upcoming new model; however, it’s likely to be named ‘Maruti Escudo’ and positioned below the Grand Vitara and above the Brezza. While the Grand Vitara is a Nexa exclusive offering, the Escudo will be sold via Arena dealership network. This new Maruti 5-seater SUV will take on the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and other midsize SUVs.

How big it will be?

Despite being a 5-seater, the Maruti Escudo (codenamed Maurti Y17) will be longer than the Grand Vitara, which measures 4,345mm in length. The longer body structure hints at a bigger boot space. Dimensionally, it will be larger than the Brezza. This new Maruti 5-seater SUV will be designed on the Global-C platform that also underpins the Grand Vitara.

What could be the engine options?

Official details of the upcoming Maruti Escudo are yet to be revealed. However, the SUV is expected to share its powertrain with the Grand Vitara, which is available with a 140bhp naturally aspirated petrol and 116bhp, 1.5L strong hybrid options. A CNG fuel option might also be offered. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox. The Escudo is likely to come with an AWD system.

What more to expect?

The overall design and styling of the new Maruti 5-seater SUV will resemble the Grand Vitara. However, a few cosmetic changes are expected. Its interior layout and features might also be borrowed from the Grand Vitara. The Maruti Escudo is likely to miss out on some premium features such as a panoramic sunroof.

Features on offer could be a large touchscreen infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster, leatherette upholstery, ventilated front seats, a 360-degree camera, HUD (head-up display), wireless phone charger, TPMS, hill descent control and more.
