Today, Samsung quietly released a massive update, not for any of its mobile devices, TVs, or home appliances, but for its own website. The redesigned Samsung home page introduces many new modern UI elements and greater consistency.
Samsung has used the same website design for what seems like an eternity now, and the old look was starting to show its age in many places. Even more frustrating was that the old design wasn’t very consistent across Samsung portals in different countries. These issues have finally been addressed with today’s big update, at least to a degree.
Samsung’s much-needed redesign is live not only in the USA and the UK, but from what we can tell, it’s up and running worldwide. The reworked website welcomes Samsung visitors from Europe, India, Australia, and even South Korea.
Some minor UI differences from one region to another still exist, but there seems to be a much greater consistency across different portals. As for the redesign itself, some of the most notable differences we spotted are:
- More and better animations.
- Larger picture and animation frames (sometimes going full screen).
- The outdated home page carousel is gone.
- The menu bar at the top is now transparent on the home page.
- A better organized, less cluttered home page.
- Smoother UI and better performance. Pages load much faster and are more responsive.
Samsung even brought a much-needed redesign to the color selection menu for Galaxy devices. Color names used to be missing for all the options except the one selected. Now, you can see each color’s name under every swatch.
We can still see a few old elements and some inconsistencies across the design, but for the most part, this is probably one of the most significant Samsung website updates in years. And from what we’ve seen so far, it’s definitely a step in the right direction for Samsung’s portal everywhere.
It’s good timing, too. This long-awaited redesign comes weeks before the expected launch of the next-gen Galaxy Z foldable phones and Galaxy Watch 8 wearables at Unpacked.
