Last month, Canalys’ market analysis revealed that Samsung shipped the highest number of smartphones globally in Q1 2025, making it the chart topper. Well, a new market research points towards the same thing.
According to TrendForce’s market analysis, Samsung produced 64 million smartphones in Q1 2025 globally, higher than any other brand in the world last quarter, giving it the first position on the chart with a 22% market share.
The research firm says that this number is 21% higher than last year’s and there are two major reasons behind it. First, the South Korean tech giant had to stock up on the flagship models for the launch. When TrendForce says that, we assume that it is talking about the Galaxy S25 Edge, Galaxy Z Fold 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7, and the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE. Second, it ramped up the production to import as many devices in the US as it can before Trump’s traffics kick in.
Samsung’s direct rival in the mobile industry, Apple, is in the second position, producing 48 million iPhones, which is not only significantly lower than Samsung’s figure but also 40% less than its own figure from last year. With that, Apple has a 17% market share. According to TrendForce, the reason behind the drop is that the demand for the iPhone 16 series is lower than what it was for the previous models, and because its phones don’t benefit from China’s subsidy.
Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, and Transsion are in the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth places with 14%, 9%, 8%, and 7% market shares, respectively.
