Hyderabad: Narayanguda Police and East Zone Task Force busted a notorious burglary gang responsible for a high-value theft in the city.
The police recovered 158 tolas of gold jewellery, Rs 10.75 lakh in cash, and eight luxury watches, all valued at Rs 1.7 crore.
The arrests were made in connection with a burglary case registered under Cr. No. 164/2025 U/s 331(4), 305 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), following a complaint filed by a resident of Basheerbagh on June 7.
Inside job leads to major heist
According to the complaint, the burglary occurred on the intervening night of June 5 and 6, when unidentified intruders broke into the house by dismantling a window grill. They looted 173 tulas of gold, Rs 17.5 lakh in cash, and expensive watches from a safety locker.
Investigations revealed that the prime accused, Chaupal Sagar Kumar, had insider access to the house through his mother-in-law, who was employed there as a domestic help. Using this familiarity, he plotted the burglary with his accomplices.
Accused and Roles
The police have so far arrested four individuals and identified three others who remain at large. The arrested include Chaupal Sagar Kumar (22), pan shop owner from Karwan, Akash Kumar Mandal (19), a bike mechanic from Asif Nagar, native of Bihar, Saqlain Khan (19), a student from Mehboob Colony, Chandra Shekar Chaupal (49), businessman and alleged receiver of stolen goods. The absconding accused include Ashish, Ashwini Rachu, and Shalini Rachu.
Swift action and recovery
On June 16, acting on credible leads, the police apprehended the four accused while they were attempting to flee from Kumarwadi in Asif Nagar. Hyderabad City Police Commissioner CV Anand appreciated the prompt coordination that led to the arrest and significant recovery.
Efforts are underway to trace the remaining suspects and recover the unrecovered portion of the stolen assets, the police said.
