Chatham Glenwood softball captures IHSA 3A state title: Video highlights
Chatham Glenwood’s Irie Lohrenz hit the go-ahead RBI single and Ava Bobb snagged the final out for the Class 3A softball state title on Saturday, June 14.
New Berlin will promote Trent Quarton as its next head football coach, pending school board approval on June 26.
Quarton has served the past two seasons as New Berlin’s defensive coordinator under then-head coach James Dambacher, who resigned June 12 for personal reasons after leading the Pretzels to their first playoff berth in 10 seasons.

The 2008 Virden graduate can draw on extensive coaching experience beginning with Rochester in 2014 and 2015 under distinguished head coach Derek Leonard and defensive coordinator Steve Buecker.
“He taught me a lot more than anybody has about defense,” Quarton said of Buecker. “He was very influential for me.”
Quarton later reached second place in Class 3A as an assistant under Brody Walworth at Pleasant Plains before working with Colton Piper at Riverton.
New Berlin is on schedule with its summer work, it’s just a matter of reassigning different roles to coaches, he said.
Quarton, who teaches at Springfield High, anticipates about six or seven returning starters on both sides of the ball and lauded the team’s leadership.
“We have a really good group of seniors who’ll be great leaders for our football program this year,” Quarton said.

Neil Holderread is also set to replace Blake Lucas as the school’s next boys basketball coach, pending the school board vote on June 26.
Lucas left to become the athletic director and boys basketball coach at Pawnee.
Holderread began serving as a physical education and driver’s education teacher at New Berlin last year.
The 2003 Litchfield graduate previously coached junior varsity at his alma mater for two seasons. He has also coached at the grade school level in Jacksonville.
He hopes to create havoc through tenacious man defense.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity,” Holderread said. “I know Blake (Lucas) a little bit. I like what he’s built and just try to continue to build off that. Some of the things that we’re trying to do is similar. He left behind a lot of experience and that’s good. I’m excited to be in the Sangamo (Conference) — a lot of great teams, a lot of great coaches and a lot of great programs.”
Holderread said he has already seen progress in scrimmages at Warrensburg-Latham and Lincoln.
“Obviously I have a little bit of a relationship with some of these players, I’ve had some of them in class and I see them in the hallway every day,” Holderread said. “I’ve been around the program a little bit watching and sitting in practices and things like that. I think they’ve been great. They’ve kind of welcomed me with open arms. They’ve been open to what I’m trying to do.”
