Originally released in Tamil as Dada, this film garnered over ₹40 crores at the box office. Now, it has been dubbed into Telugu as Paapa, and brought to telugu audiences by NRI producer Mrs. Neeraja Kota. Can the magic created in Tamil be recreated for the Telugu audience? Lets discuss at length.

Plot:

Mani (Kavin) and Sindhu (Aparna Das) are in final year of their college and they both are deeply in love. Their relationship and closeness grow with each day. One day, Sindhu reveals that she is pregnant and Mani asks her to contemplate abortion. The couple grow distant over this issue and Sindhu abandons even her kid. Mani takes him away and starts becoming more responsible. Will the couple re-unite? Will their families accept their re-union? Watch the movie to know more.

Analysis:

Kavin and Aparna Das have given their career best performances in the film. We can empathise with them individually while we understand why they are going through such painful journey. They both have been able to live as characters. Mainly, Kavin’s performance as Mani leaves a mark and he is highly relatable. Aparna Das, while looking cute, she is able to handle the complex emotions brilliantly.

All other actors including seasoned performers like Bhagyaraj and VTV Ganesh also deliver highly nuanced portrayals. The movie excels in portraying a single parent’s adjustment with the parenthood and growth of an individual over the period of time with responsibilities on their shoulders. But in falls a little bit short in portraying the same from a woman’s point of view.

Also, the comical portions in the second half, slightly drag the movie and almost dilutes its essence. But the strong climax and emotionally moving portrayal of the actors in the moment, gives a fulfilling experience. Writing by director Ganesh Babu could have been better in places where the tormented couple come face to face again and in dad-son relationship portions in second hour.

Still, the movie provides a high-quality visual experience with heart touching music, emotional content. The movie keeps us all hooked throughout the runtime and it is worth a watch for everyone. The coming of age elements and the emotional climax can be stated as the highlights of the film.

Bottomline:

Paapa is a movie that you can watch in theatres without any second thought.

Rating: 2.75/5
